Lancer Newbie

Postby JustinR » Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:46 pm

Hello all,

I'm Justin, i'm 19 and i'm from the Sutherland Shire (WOOOO!! ;) ), and currently studying a Batchelor of Information Technology at the University of Wollongong.

I'll firstly say i dont actually own a Lancer (yet), but have been tossing up whether to buy a Lancer VR/ES or a Subaru Impreza 08 Hatch as a first car. I'm leaning towards the Lancer because my mate has a VRX and its a damn nice car, but am not sure about the boot space compared to the Impreza. I'd love some opinions on which one to get, especially which model Lancer if i go that route :D

Cheers

hi justin welcome
i must admit when we were looking to buy our sxy white lancer boot space was most important to us and it is like the tardis its amazing what you can fit in there :D
i also like that the lancers look so much better than the subys with very minimal changes
no turbo no awd but she's all white

thanks for that, i need boot space to move my dj equipment from gig to gig, and the lancer probably has more room than the impreza anyway.

and yes, i also think the lancers look better than the subys, even from stock.

Hi Justin and welcome.

Unfortunately you will receive a biased opinion here.

All I can say is the Lancer is a good car with many extras that most other models do not have as standard. Mitsubishi back it up with a warranty second to none.

Best of luck and choosing a car is a personal choice so what ever you get I am sure it will be fine.

You would think the impreza would have more room since its a hatch? if anything though you can just drop the lancers rear seats and fit a small cow in the back.

Your right, being a Lancer forum it would be more biased towards the lancer, but it helps me ask these questions.

Well you'd think so, but ive sat in both cars and am truely not too sure which one has more room, i think the lancer does but am not 100% sure.

Do you think its worth paying a little extra to get a VR over the ES? What does the VR have (besides the rims, kit, audio etc) that the ES doesnt?

VR has the rims, side skirts, boot spoiler, rain sensing wipers, 6 stack cd, more speakers and auto headlights.

Newer models have even more gadgets, what year model were you thinking of ?

I've got the 09 and thats the things it comes with.

If you plan on exterior mods, buy the ES and upgrade it but if you want things like the headlights and wipers, it would end up being much more expensive to put in etc.

I test-drove golf, jetta, mondeo, focus, corolla, i30, mazda3, impreza RS and 2 lancers

the 3 finalists;

Impreza RS sedan
pro: the AWD
con: it lacked power, uncomfortable and was a $1000 more expensive

Lancer ES CVT 2.0L sportback
pro: more functional room in the boot, CVT is excellent
con: less visibility out rear window

VRX 2.4L Manual sedan
pro: VRX performed way better, 18" wheels and bodykit look heaps better, rockford fosgate sound system is very impressive
con: boot space pitiful compared to sportback

final decision was to combine the 2 lancers, I bought a VRX CVT 2.4 Sportback.
One year on and I'm extremely happy with it

as for boot space:

Impreza Sedan - 420-Litre
Impreza Hatch - 301-Litre

Lancer Sedan - 400-litre
Lancer Sportback - 344-Litre

everything else has pretty much been covered

Like everyone else, i also looked at the Subie, the main reasons i got the Lancer was
1. it was 2.4L (if the VRX wasnt a 2.4 or the RS was a 2.5, it would have been harder)
2. i got the Lancer for an absolute steal, and value for money NOTHING could beat the Lancer

oh and Welcome

I was in your boat about two months ago, deciding between a suby and a lancer. In the end, I ended up going with the lancer - mainly because for the price I was paying the mitsi was alot better value than the suby and plus it looked better (all the suby's I looked at was hatch and not a big fam of hatches and the 08-09 shape is a bit of a yawn)

Anyway, I ended up going with a 09 VR - pay a little extra and you get the: stock VR alloys, side skirts, rain sensing wipers, 6 stack cd, tweeters, auto sensing headlights, leather wrapped streering, handbrake and gear shift, cruise control and six airbags (I believe the ES only has 4).

That's just my two cents

:)

Hi Justin and Welcome
We may be a little one eyed here but the Lancer is a lot of car for the money
I don't think you would be disappointed with the VR they are a great car
Good luck with your pending decision and purchase
Cheers Chris. *dance*

What?
The sportback is the same length and has the seats in the same place, it just has the window further back basically, making it a hatch.
How can it have less space? :?
