Replacing the front bar question.

Postby Evo_Girl » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:56 pm

Hi guys. So being in QLD I have heard heaps of stories regarding fibreglass kits being illegal. I finally got around at calling vehicle standards @ the department of transfer and he told me that only the bonnet needs to be metal and that fibreglass kits where ok.

But he did say that I should call Mitsubishi and ask them by replacing the front bar if it would impact the airbags if I do prang the car. He said because if it does my insurance will deem my car as illegal.

So question is, would anyone know if by taking of you stock front bar and replacing it with a new one, will it cause the airbags to be faulty (not deploy if in accident)?

Nope
As your front bar has nothing to do with airbags
Someone can prob explain better then me but there are like sensors "that know" if your in a crash (impact sensors) and that will tell your airbags to deploy if involved in an accident
Also there have been many people that have taken off their front bar off and not have airbags go off
Mine's quicker then yours!!!

Your air bags's deployment is NOT dependent on the material of your bumper bar.

I've taken my bar off several times and not had my airbags go off. It won't effect the airbag sensors by putting a different bar on
