Potential Modification: Puddle Lights?!

Let me know what you guys think because i think i might give these a try!
Thought it might give it a sort of Prestige VIP feel to the car. I think ill hook it up as this guy did just as you exit and enter with the fade. Think it look okay, but would like honest opinions, Don't mind at all

Does anyone know a good home way of testing them?
Just a positive and negative. how can i just temporarily add power to test if they work and see how bright they are?

I saw a car a while back, think it was an X5, that had illuminated door handles when unlocked.
