What happened to Rallying Evos?

So back in the day Evo's used to kill it on the rally track, I mean that's what they're made for...

Then all of a sudden they disappeared from professional rallying never to be seen again. Now you look at the WRC and all they race are Ford Focus', Hydndai's, Citeron's, etc.

I read somewhere that it was because of financial issues (GFC?) and that was the same reason that Subaru pulled out as well...

But can anyone confirm this/suggest otherwise?
Was the Evo X ever really used in rally?
Is there any chance of Evo's getting reintroduced? (I don't really know much about rally regulations, have they/evo's changed enough so that evo's won't be able to compete again?)

Keen to hear some thoughts! :) :) :) :?: :?:

also i think the last race they won was in *99 in an evo VI so it probably became a lost cause.

Why was this thread made twice?
Can a mod merge the 2 of them?

Anyway back to EVOs watching the V8s in Tassie and in a GT support race a EVO7 got poll and won the race, easily beating the Porches off the line and easily pulling away. Why don't we so any EVO10s in races like this?

Production touring car race series has heaps of evos in it.

And for rallying, Mitsubishi is almost ready to compete their new Mirage with an awesome awd system and 4B11T

2011 WRC changed their rules, Max engine displacement 1600cc, they also removed the 4m rule allowing smaller cars on track.
Also the Mirage is a 1.6

So hypothetically, if an Evo X was entered into the WRC, do you think it would have a chance?

What if it had an engine swap to a 1.6L to meet the new regulations?

Unlikely?

Too heavy most cars in WRC weigh 1200kg

I find it ironic the Lancer is still listed as a small car, IMO since the CJ it's at least now a mid size. My parents 15yo Pathfinder is considered a mid size SUV and it's not much longer and way easier to park.

The weight was a big shock for me coming from the feather weight CC coupe at just on 1000kg. Fantastic little car to throw around of a twisty road.

I agree - the CJ is definitely a medium sized car.

- I suppose people don't want to put it alongside Subaru Liberty's, Commodores, ect. 'Medium Sedan's'

OT - like the white with black roof, really wish my CJ was white, been considering facing stripes.
