Hey guys,
I know I'm new and all but I'm just curious as what people count as 'mods'.
I was in a Holden owners club before this and things like painting your badge or slapping in one led here and some floor mats there werent typically counted as modding your car. What are your thoughts??

Jeff every one has different thought.

I consider floor mats a mod as the car does not come standard with them. But others don't.

I consider I have a lot of mods because the Aspire's come with a lot of extras.

I can not count my side skirts for example, but some one who fits them to their ES can.

I see a lot of ES modded to look like VRX's and they win ROTM over a stock VRX.

So if you consider the stock ES which is the base model do I have mods like
HID headlights
Sunroof
MMCS
Side skirts
Leather interior
CVT Auto
2.4L engine
Fog lights
Steering wheel radio controls
climate control
18" alloy wheels
Front top strut bar
Thicker sway bars
Side air bags
chrome grills


This is for you to decide.

The best thing about this club is most members are complimentary to any thing you do to your car and not negative.

I'm sure our Chief Tech SIR-VRX will give you a full definition.

In my interpretation, any change over standard qualifies as a mod thus being a modification of what how it originally was.

If you look through the garage section modifications are simply categorized.

Sure there will be some people who will approach this with a holier than thou attitude that pasting a sticker does not qualify as a mod BUT we prefer to take a more relaxed attitude towards this and not have a segregation between the haves and have nots.

If it didnt come with the car when you first brought it or from stock/trim level then its a mod. Thats how I always thought it was

i would say a mod is something that is not standard on the car, but i dont count stickers as a mod, if thats the case there is a Holden Vectra with 100 mods, because she has 100 Flower stickers on the car.

But each to their own

People interpretation of mods can vary.

I, like many others, consider a mod as anything that is not standard fitment to the car it's being fitted to. However, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, I don't believe stickers, scuff plates, floor mats, LEDs etc are mods, I would call them accessories.

As aspir3 said, OEM side skirts on an ES would be called a mod, however not the case on a model with them fitted as standard.

A general rule can not always be applied, but I try to look at it this way: If it's a major addition either cosmetically or otherwise, it's a mod. If it's a simple addition for aesthetics, it's not.

Following on my rule here is a quick list off the top of my head:

Mods:

Bodykit parts inc spoilers
Alloy Wheels
Strut/chassis braces
Upgraded brakes
Exhaust
Intake
Engine work
Suspension
Large car graphics or painting
Custom Stereo

Not mods:

LEDz and NEONz
Stickers
Floor Mats
Seat Covers
Painted brakes
Chrome Exhaust tip

So, basically there is no one rule, each person's interpretation is different to the next, we're all unique!

What about Jazzys Scuff plates Adrian ?

Ok, clarification of my opinion on the scuff plates.

OEM Lancer Scuff Plates = Not a mod, an accessory.

Custom-made Scuff Plates = Mod

OEM Galant Fortis Scuff Plates from Japan = Mod

Reason I believe the latter 2 are mods is the effort required in each case. Not just a simple matter of walking into a dealer or getting them thrown in as part of the deal.

As you probably know your car is closest we get here in Australia to the JDM Galant Fotris.

Yes just stirring you up.

I would not know any thing about a Galant Fortis.

A detailed thread would be interesting to read.

In a nutshell, a Galant Fortis is what the Lancer is known as in Japan. We get on spec of it here, the "Super Navi Exceed", as an Aspire, but there are other specs too, all of which are well spec'd.

They get AWD as an option too (albeit the Outlander-based system not the system we know from the Ralliart)

I'll do up a thread on it for you and others to peruse.

I consider a modification anything that's been added to the car and is different to what it previously was.

Everyone will always have different opinions on mods some positive and some negative, but if you like it, do it
