If I wasn't so invested in this I'd find it interesting.
She's in the mechanic's again, this time a different auto electrician who was recommended by a bunch of different garages.
He reckons it's not the wiring because it's so intermittent. Wires stay bad, they don't fluctuate in between working and not working. Of course the steering decided to work as I drove the car over to him, like a sick dog going to the vet it looked like I haven't been dragging it around every day building up Popeye forearms for the last month.
He figures it's a power steering control unit which is located in behind the glovebox. He took it out, took it apart and put it back together and back in. Seeing if the problem will come back.
This is a replaceable part. It'll take a couple of days but this might be the solution.
I think it's finally in with a guy who actually knows his stuff.
So here's hoping.
At this point.. once it's fixed I'm considering selling it and putting those funds in towards a newer Lancer with a bigger engine... But one step at a time.

Well my car has been similar too I suppose, so that's relevant enough!
Been out in it and no issues as of yet.
Eastern European lads, they know what they're doing and have a great work ethic but are a bit aren't great at explaining things so I'm not 100% sure what the exact fix means.
Hopefully she's fixed anyway, I had no idea there was a power steering control unit in behind the glovebox. But there you go. Rebuilding it seems to have fixed it for now at least.
Just have to wait a few months and see if the power steering holds on for me and then I can call this weird problem fixed.
He had a similar Japanese car before a few months ago with the same sort of EPS problem and this fixed worked for them. So best of luck to my Lancer, she's avoided the scrap heap!

Hello! My car has the same problem and simptoms as your Lancer (same EPS, same 1.5 engine). I also tried to change the battery and no visible effect, the next thing was to switch the power steering with another one same as you.
I'm wondering if by changing the power steering control unit fixed the problem for you. If that's the case, I'm going to switch it real quick.

Re: Electric Power Steering Issues
Having the same issue. Took the cover off the eps module and it seems like there’s burn marks on the copper prongs around the motherboard. Also got codes c1532 and c1533. I did put stock Evo x wheels on my car which only has electronic power steering, no hydraulic. Given the Evo x wheels are larger than stock wheels I’m wondering if I did this to myself. Was able to find one on eBay that is a G3 whereas mine is a G2. After speaking with Mitsubishi parts department, these are discontinued but the part number for the G3 is listed as a replacement part for my G2. Is this something I’ll have to take to Mitsubishi to get reprogrammed once installed?
