Engine oil change - 3000km

Hey guys,
I am planning to do an oil change before the 7500km just for the peace of mind so it will get most of the metal fragments out.
I got 2 question,
1) I went to a Mitsubishi service centre to get the oil filter and the sump plug washer.
Sump plug washer seems to have the right part number.
However the oil filter they got is the MD356000. I did a search on the forum and I got a MD360935 as the oil filter of choice.
I proivided my VIN number to the deal and he said this is the one to use (as in the 365000). Is this right?
2) I am planning to use Royal Purple 5w-30 as the engine oil of choice. However it is only a API SL grade engine oil, while the owners manual calls for API SM grade or higher.
Any suggestion with that?
