just get the one Adrian has he has the proper cable. and why dont you get a 7" screen, and a laptop. connect them and put them in your doubble din space of your car, then you have a comp in your car :D its something i want to do. and its quite simple to do really. if you can get a 7" screen, that you can put windows on. or connect a laptop to. if anyone knows a way let me know as i want to do this. or a way to hack a 7" display headdeck and get it back to its operating system.

Try going from a HDMI output to VGA input, $220 for a HDMI stripper to get a picture

Exactly ... doing it this way because it'll cost me $230, as opposed to a fair bit more and a lot of fiddling around to run an actual PC. All the hard work is done this way. Don't know for sure what metrics I'll be able to read til I get the module, but someone has to try it first, and then you'll all know how well it works. At the end of the day it's not too much money - worst case scenario it'll at least give me an accurate way to measure 0-60 times.

You wouldn't use windows... there are other pieces of software that have a better carputer interface. I haven't tried any as yet though.

EDIT: you would still have windows on there as the OS though.

yer i ment more as using a computer to look at car ecu, and store music and stuff on, and have cd player, but not a cd player you cant get back to the OS with like all CD players you cant get to the OS, BUT it is there. if you can figure out how thenm it would be just as good i guess

I doubt you will get back to the OS on most headunits. They will probably run their own OS rather than WinCE or anything....

The idea is to put a computer in that does everything. If you wanted to do it properly, you put in a touchscreen and that controls all operations. Install a startup/shutdown controller which handles the power of the pc automatically.

I'll be putting window 7 on mine as XP is taking to long to boot. A friend of mine just did his winCE course and said its not worth stripping down XP to make it boot faster. I've tested Evoscan and ECUflash on windows 7 on my laptop and its holding stable different story usually if you try it in a more 'mobile' setup. But once I get it running with a better boot time I'll post more details.

if your talking about a eepc it wont be able to run windows7, pretty sure like vista requires 1Gb of ram just to boot. that's gonna take forever to load. like that.
