I could be letting off a bomb but it looks like I will be picking my Lancer up this afternoon.
Just wanted to know whats the best way you guys have found to drive it when new?
I know the engines come run in but there's still a period where everything needs to wear in, i've head opening it up a bit here and there is good but i've also heard you shouldnt rev over 3000rpm.

Jamie the car should be fine to just drive normally. The engine will be fine to run over 3000 RPM but dont thrash a nice new Lancer. Give it the respect it deserves that is all.
But if you are new in a Lancer it is a good idea to take it easy until you get to know the controls and the feel of the car.

I meant from the end of first gear to 100km/h in second not 0-100.
The corolla is faster then a lancer, its not just a corolla its the sportivo it has the Celica/Lotus Yamaha engine good for 141kw...
In its current tune its putting out more at the wheels then the lancer has at the flywheel and its 100kg lighter.

1. 1 to 2 min warm up before start driving no longer don,t let it idol for long times
2. do not over rev motor
3. do not labor motor
4. most important do not sit on the one speed for a long time vary your speed. say your on a 100km hour speed limit do not sit on 100km change your speed from 70km - 100km say drive on 70km for 15 mins then take it up to 90 for 15 mins then back to 80km then back to 100km

Have you ever owned a Corolla? If not then you cant really be at liberty to say its s***.
Do you think someone with an Evo or RA would say they just had a lancer or that they had the sports model? Im not saying the sportivo is an evo or ra equivalent just putting into perspective for you.

Hi,
Some of the advise on here is good like not labouring the engine or sitting at a constant speed for too long but you shouldn't be afraid of going over 3,000rpm. All components of the engine need to wear in and the MIVEC system doesn't change the cam timing until after 3,600rpm so going over this rpm now and then is a good thing. Besides, the ECU is in green mode for the first couple thousand km where a different fuel/air mixture is used to protect a new engine. You will notice after your ECU is out of green mode your engine will have more power and your fuel economy will be better.
