Opinions sought.
Picked up my 2009 VR sport back New years eve.
17 days after purchase, I got a phone call from dealership asking me to bring car in as b4 I purchased, service manager had the car and considered the transmission noiser than usual & had put in for a new one.
I was shocked 2 tell the truth, it wasn't mentioned pre sale,& I wouldn't have gone through with the sale 4 sure.
Took it back 2day, &was told mine was the 1st they knew of with a faulty cvt.
Mitsubishi is not mucking around though &will replace the whole lot & send back to Japan to investigate why!
What do others think of the cvt, and any probs?cheers

Have had a CVT Olympic ed since 2008 with no problems. I use the paddle shifts loads as well.

Was looking at getting the Nissan Xtrail at one point, and I must say that their CVT has been problematic. The problem seems to be screeching noises with the transmission though, and their only solution has been to remove the transmission in full and replace it. It's not an issue in warranty but once you're out of it, it won't be a particularly nice thing to do.
That's where the 10 year powertrain warranty from Mitsubishi is useful.

No problem with the way it sounded to me at all, but Im no car expert.
I did have my don't hold it against me, ford telstar's trans die at 120,000 kms but there wasn't much noise there either, the car just stopped dead at the end of the street!
Cost $3 grand to replace.
I am having trouble getting used to the car not holding on hills/ inclines though because of the cvt.
Using the handbrake more than I ever have at lights etc.

We've had our '08 CVT for 90,000km and no issues so far...
Also no issues having it hold on hills, though - the car has a similar amount of forward "pull" when stopped as any other regular automatic gearbox I've driven.

Maybe there's something in the water they drink or the air they breathe
